Julian Bakery Smart Carb Bread #1 Revisited

Got this email from a reader named Janice Salomon:

Hi, Dana -

A Google search on The Julian Bakery led me to your blog where I noticed that your 5/25/10 post about a carb test seems to be based upon incorrect math. If you started out at 125 (lowest reading), and your highest reading was 157, then the gap between high and low was 28 points, not 38. So I'm assuming that a lower baseline would result in a better carb count for this bread (I figure 2.4?). Anyway, just so you know. I wouldn't notice if my house is burning down, but this I noticed...LOL...

I just started (again) being interested in low carb (healthy!) eating, so I just found your blog today. Looks soooooo interesting, can't wait to start readin'!

Best,

Janice

This is one of the great things about writing in this sort of a forum: People catch your errors. Embarrassing, but far better than not having them caught!

Thanks, Janice!

Type 2 Diabetic : Recommends Smart Carb

This bread is Absolutely FABULOUS!!! I'm a diabetic who must attempt to keep her daily carb intake below 10 gm. Virtually impossible. I really missed bread. Until I found this Smart Carb Bread with 1 net carb I had been going without. I am proud to say I am a regularly customer of the Julian Bakery's SmartCarb No.1 bread. I am so happy with it and will continue to make it a part of my low carb diet that is so vital to my health considering I am a type 2 diabetic. Thank You - Merry G.

Julian Bakery

I tried both the low carb #1 and low carb #2 breads from Julian Bakery. I have hypoglycemia which I control by controlling my carbohydrates and not eating sugar, ESPECIALLY in the morning. The day I got this bread I tried the Smart Carb 2 cinnamon almond raisin bread. I ate it at 10 am. By noon I was shaking and sweating, having a full blown hypoglycemia attack. I thought ok, this may be low carb because of all the fiber, but there is some stuff in it making my blood sugar spike. I looked at the ingredients and noticed it had spelt which is high carb and I thought that was weird it would be in this low carb bread. The next day I could barely make myself eat the low carb #1 I was so scared to get sick. But I ate it, and again, hypoglycemia attack. I threw all $50 dollars worth of bread away.

Julian Bakery

Has anyone ever done a postprandrial blood sugar with this low carb bread? Mine skyrocked! :-((
Not sure why! Kathy

Readings off the charts

When I first heard about Julian Bakery, I was so excited about the possibility of having bread back in my life, especially if it really had 1 net carb. So when I actually saw it on the shelf, I went ahead and purchased two loaves of Smart Carb #1 and a Smart Carb #2. Well my experience has been similar to everyone else's, my postprandials for Smart Carb #1 skyrocketed and I was really disappointed. :(( So I tried Smart Carb #2 and it was even worse.

Oh well, at least the birds will be able to enjoy these soon. :((
